Adam's friend Teela noted the creature's cowardly nature, stating that he was "a real cringer", which ultimately became the tiger's name. He found the young tiger injured and was able to nurse him back to health. Prince Adam first met Cringer in his youth during a nature hike through the Vine Jungle. While Cringer was a coward and disliked being transformed into Battle Cat, he also understood why Battle Cat was needed and did not attempt to avoid being transformed. In the original Filmation series, both Cringer and Battle Cat had the power of speech. Battle Cat is physically larger than Cringer and is adorned with an armoured saddle over his back and a helmet covering his head. When Adam transforms into He-Man, he will project a magical ray from his Sword of Power to transform Cringer into the mighty Battle Cat. Although cowardly, he is a good friend to Adam and will do anything for him so long as there's no conflict involved. However, in some incarnations, he is capable of speech. Unlike others of his species, Cringer is tame and not especially strong.
